Darrell Earl Day

Darrell Day, age 75, of Saline, Michigan, passed away at home on Monday, February 23, 2026, surrounded by his family, following a long battle with small cell lung cancer. Formerly of Livonia, Michigan, Darrell grew up on Cranston Street and carried those roots with him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Livonia Franklin High School, and his talent was evident early on - Darrell won a scholarship to Interlochen for his beautiful voice. His voice was a true gift, though he was often shy about sharing it, making the moments when he did all the more special to those who heard it. In 1978, Darrell married Nancy Day at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, where he was a longtime member. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, hard work, and steadfast love. Darrell spent 30 years with General Motors, known for his reliability, dedication, and quiet determination. Above all, Darrell loved his family. He also loved his home - especially the land itself. With patience and vision, he transformed 10 open acres into a tree-filled property that became his own park and his favorite place to be. He loved working the land and tending his garden, proudly growing cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, and even a few giant pumpkins along the way. Many will remember him best outdoors: sitting by a campfire with the Detroit Tigers on the radio, the glow of his tiki torches lit nearby, enjoying the simple comfort of an evening well spent. He also enjoyed beekeeping, even if he never cared for honey - one of the many small details that made him unmistakably Darrell. Darrell is survived by his wife, Nancy Day; his sons, Bradley Day and Robert Day; daughter-in-law, Rachelle Day; and his four beloved grandchildren, Christian, Mackenzie, Megan, and Kelsey. A celebration of life will be held once the trees bloom and the weather is warm enough to gather outdoors on the property he cherished.
