David Robert Gebhardt

David Robert Gebhardt passed away on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 at the Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital, after 76 golden years of life and service. He was the first born of Anne Hein and Robert G. Gebhardt on September 4th, 1949 in Ann Arbor, MI. David married Sherry Lynn Billau in 1970 and she survives, along with their only daughter, Lisa (MoReno Taylor II) Gebhardt. In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his three siblings: Tom (Betsy Foote) Gebhardt, Bruce Gebhardt, and Julie Gebhardt. David was preceded in death by both parents. David was a renaissance man, in every sense of the term. He grew up on Princeton Street in Ann Arbor and did everything from selling ice cream at The Washtenaw Dairy, to working at Apollo Music store selling guitars, to digging pools. He was a lifelong creative, a talented writer, designer, and builder. Architecture became his passion after graduating from The University of Michigan Architecture School and starting his own company, David R. Gebhardt Architect PC in 1978. He was a registered Architect in seven different states and served on the Advisory Committee for Washtenaw Community College, as well as instructing students in the Architectonics Department. He has received an Award of Merit from the AIA Energy Competition and has completed successful projects from conception for clients including The Fairlane Club, The Dearborn Inn, Ford Motor Company, and many more. He cherished his wife Sherry in their 56 years of marriage. They were the quintessential Ann Arbor Townie couple, loved by so many. When his daughter Lisa was born, he became the best girl dad ever. Not just to Lisa, but to her friends, cousins and his God-Daughter Tricia Lynn. He had a great love of music, cars, golf, cooking and baking, and traveling. He was the life of every party, a comedian, a shoulder to cry on - a very intelligent and innovative man. David was a devoted husband, father, friend, business partner, and inspiration to all. He lived his values every day and his kindness touched the lives of so many. The family will receive friends and stories at a Celebration of Life later this year.
