Henry D. Halloway

Henry D. Halloway, born in Churdan, Iowa and a longtime resident of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 85, due to complications from a long-term illness. He was the last surviving son of Dale and Pauline Halloway’s twelve children. Henry was preceded in death by eight of his siblings, his first wife and the mother of his children, Nancy, and his second son, Mark. He left high school early to answer a higher calling, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1956. Over the course of multiple tours in Vietnam, he distinguished himself as a decorated combat veteran, earning the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in action. Through unwavering dedication and leadership, he rose to the rank of Major before retiring from a long and honorable military career. Returning to Ypsilanti, he began his second career as the Administrative Manager of the College of Language, Science & Arts at the University of Michigan, where he continued to lead with integrity and heart. The true hallmark of his life was his deep concern for others. Whether family, colleagues, or strangers in need, he was never indifferent. He lived with quiet empathy and a powerful sense of duty to care, guided by the principle of Matthew 7:12: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He lived this creed in his own, unmistakable way—always authentic, always his own man. As he might have put it best himself: "I yam what I yam!" He is survived by his eldest son, Dale, and wife Miyuki; his youngest son, Bruce, and wife Lori; and his daughter-in-law Sandy, wife of his late son Mark. He is also remembered by his beloved sisters, Judy, Iris, and Leslie. His legacy continues through six cherished grandchildren—Keiji, Erika, Jiei, Evan, William, and Samantha—and her brothers, Kurt and Konner (Sandy). He is also survived by his stepsons, Jeff and Darron, and their families. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, MI. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Keith Geiselman will officiate the service. Following the service burial will take place in the Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, MI where Military Honors will be held under the auspices of the Veteran’s Honor Guard of Washtenaw County.
