Julia P. Klein

Julia P. Klein, 62, of Ypsilanti, Michigan passed away in her home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Julia was born on May 16, 1959 to the late Michael Szurgyi and Julia Szurgyi (Erdosi). She is survived by her three children: Amanda (Ryan) Paul, Jonathon Klein, and Corina Klein, as well as the father of her children, John Klein. She is also survived by her siblings Arpad (Elizabeth) Szurgyi, Veronica (late John) Patko, Peter (Debra) Szurgyi, Elizabeth Doyle, and sister-in-law, Cindy Szurgyi; many nieces and nephews, close friends Cheryl Salonim and Marian Hardy, as well as her many friends and co-workers at Meijer. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Szurgyi, as well as her close friend, Jack Steele. Julia proudly served in the Navy from June of 1978 to June of 1985; she attended boot camp in Orlando, Florida and then stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, serving as a member of the Military Police. After serving in Cuba, she attended the Aviation Electronics School in Memphis, Tennessee, where she learned how to use flight simulators. Julia completed her service as a 3rd Class Petty Officer and Flight Simulator Technician at North Island Naval Aviation Station. Julia transitioned from a career in the Navy to a career in IT while shifting focus on starting her own family. She later began a career in retail at Meijer, where she dedicated 25 years of her life as a valued team member. Julia enjoyed painting ceramics, doing crafts and making keepsakes, watching the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions play football, going to lunch with her friends Cheryl and Marian, listening to Hungarian music, and telling hilarious stories to her children. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Saturday, May 21, 2022 between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, MI. A memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Drex Morton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project.
