Teresa Marie Yu

Teresa Marie Yu (Smith) age 56, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at her home in Saline, MI. Teresa was born on November 20, 1960 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Donald and Shirley (Davis) Smith. She graduated from Mott Community College with a Dental Assisting degree and started her career in 1980. Teresa and Andy (Tsunlock) met in Flushing, MI and were married on June 26, 1982. They moved to Ypsilanti where Andy started his career with General Motors. They had daughter Megan on October 14, 1984. Teresa then retired from dental assisting to focus on raising and spending time with Megan. Teresa could light up a room with her laugh and genuine smile. She was always the life of the party and enjoyed talking to family and friends for hours. She loved and cherished her family deeply. She is loved by her many nieces and nephews. Teresa was fascinated with the latest current events and reality TV shows. She rooted for the Detroit Tigers, University of Michigan and Michigan State (since Megan graduated from there) football. She enjoyed fine dining with a glass (or two) of champagne. While she was not very interested in traveling, Teresa did visit many exciting places, and saw friends and families in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Teresa took pride in maintaining a meticulously beautiful home. One of her most favorite pastimes was visiting the spa. Survivors in addition to her husband Andy include their daughter Megan Yu of Ypsilanti, parents Donald and Shirley Smith, sister Lori (Jeff) Huffman, brother Joel (Laurie) Smith, sister Amy (Chad) Waldvogel, and many nieces and nephews. Teresa is preceded in death by her brother Jeffery Smith and sister Angela Huntman. Burial will take place in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Ann Arbor with immediate family members. A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 P.M. at the Washtenaw Golf Club, 2955 Packard Street, Ypsilanti, MI, 48197. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor Cancer Center Renovation and Expansion Project.
