Verne William Collison

At the age of 86, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at home surrounded by family. Verne was born on October 11, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan the son of Vern and Carine (Thompson) Collison. Verne served in the Navy Reserves in Saginaw Bay before joining the Army and serving during the Korean War. On October 24, 1953 he married Florence Symons who survives him. They were married in Saginaw, Michigan where they lived for several years before settling in Saline, Michigan. Verne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence, and 4 of their children Richard (MaryAnn) Collison, Robert (Cindy) Collison, Kenneth (Janie) Collison and Diane (Arnold) Neitzke and along with his grandchildren Brandi (Aaron) Brendtke, Kelli (Wayne) Collison, Benjamin (Becky) Collison, Adam Neitzke, Kevin Collison, Shane Neitzke and Jessica Neitzke and several great grandchildren. Verne was proceded in death by two children Mary Jo Collison and Mark Collison along with his parents Vern and Carine Collison and two brothers Donald and Bruce Collison. Verne was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church for over 50 years were he served in many different capacities including usher for many years. He loved to drive to visit with friends and family. He enjoyed Tiger games, John Wayne movies and bird watching. He attended nearly all his grandchildren’s sports events rather it be soccer, jump rope, tennis or hockey he was there cheering them on. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Mossholder as Celebrant. Following the service burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Saline. Military Honors will take place under the auspices of the Washtenaw County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org) Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, 301 E. Michigan Ave., Saline, MI 48176 where family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. The family will continue to receive friends at the Church on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 A.M.
