William "Bill" Joseph Dunlap

William “Bill” Joseph Dunlap, age 81, of Saline, MI passed away peacefully at Independence Village of Plymouth on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The son of Alexander Dwight and Helen Doris Dunlap, Bill was born June 15th, 1944, in Lake Forest, IL and lived nearly his entire life in the Ann Arbor and Saline communities. He graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1962 and went on to attend and graduate from Eastern Michigan University in 1968. Bill married the love of his life, Diane, on January 28th, 1967. They were married for 55 years, until Diane’s passing in 2022. Bill is survived by his five children: Dana Kendzicky, Steve Dunlap, Bob (Jennifer) Dunlap, Mary Sankiewicz, and Mike (Laura) Dunlap; 26 grandchildren: Matt (Emily) Kendzicky, Joe (Lauren) Kendzicky, Ben (Julia) Kendzicky, Andrew Kendzicky, Greg Kendzicky, Abby Kendzicky, James Kendzicky, Kate Kendzicky, Nick Dunlap, Megan Dunlap, Nathan Dunlap, Jacob Dunlap, Jonah Dunlap, Sarah Dunlap, Anna Dunlap, Levi Dunlap, Leah Dunlap, Zach Sankiewicz, Kassie Sankiewicz, Madelyn Sankiewicz, Dylan Sankiewicz, Kyle Sankiewicz, Mitchell Dunlap, Dominic Dunlap, Miriam Dunlap, and Joel Dunlap; and three great-grandchildren: Frank Kendzicky, Jack Kendzicky, and Patrick Kendzicky. He was preceded in death by wife, Diane, parents Alexander Dwight and Helen, in-laws Mary Frances and Edward Venables, brothers James and Grant Dunlap, and son-in-law David Kendzicky. Bill spent over 40 years with various banks in Washtenaw County serving wealth management and private banking clients as a trust officer. His conversion to the Catholic faith played a pivotal role in his life and was a dedicated member of St. Andrew parish in Saline, where he served as the men’s retreat captain for over 25 years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. On Saturdays in the fall, Bill could be found watching his beloved Michigan Wolverines, where he was a season ticket holder for over four decades. He loved playing golf, especially with his sons, and bowled on several leagues in Saline. Bill and Diane enjoyed traveling, and the two visited such destinations as Bermuda, Mexico, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He also enjoyed being a regular patron at his favorite local restaurants, Metzger’s and Knight’s Steakhouse. Bill’s life was marked by a fierce dedication to his family. His greatest joy came in watching his children and grandchildren in their games, recitals, and concerts. His home was always open to friends and family, where countless memories were made hosting holidays and joyful celebrations. What will be particularly missed was Bill’s example of self-sacrifice. His life was never about him, but in service to those he loved. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, August 6th from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Saline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. John Linden as Celebrant. Following the service, inurnment will take place in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor, MI where he will be laid to rest with his wife Diane. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church or to Arbor Hospice, and envelopes will be available at the church.
