Alta Margaret Rentschler

December 27, 1925 - February 24, 2018

Alta Margaret Rentschler (Kuebler); passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 92 years of age. She was born on December 27, 1925 to the late Christian Gottlieb Kuebler and Matilda Amelia Bihlmeyer Kuebler. Alta attended Kuebler School from 1st to 8th grade and then graduated in 1943 from Saline High School. She worked for 15 years for Ann Arbor Bank, where she had many friends. These girlfriends took many trips up north together. Alta married Edwin Rentschler in 1956 and they lived on the corner of Austin and Feldkamp Roads for 56 years. She helped with the family farm while she and Ed were still able. Alta and Ed took many car trips all around the United States in the fall and they also traveled all the way to Nova Scotia. She and Ed, along with brother-in-law Ray Steeb, drove to Bastrop, TX to help with the construction of the log home of Janet and George. Alta also worked in the office of the Saline Evangelical Home for 15 years. She served as a volunteer for the Home for 35 years, and was awarded a 35 year pin for her service. She was active in church women’s groups, sang in the choir of Bethel United Church of Christ in Manchester when she was younger, and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bridgewater after she was married. She also played the organ for St. John’s Church for many years. Ed and Alta always got help and support from their wonderful neighbors and friends, Marlene and Lloyd Jedele, David and Donna Jedele, and Barbara Eversole. David had helped Ed for many years on the farm, from the time he was a young boy. Alta is preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Matilda Kuebler (Bihlmeyer), her husband Ed, her sister Wilma Steeb (Kuebler), and brother-in-law Raymond George Steeb. She is also preceded in death by Ed’s brother Lynford Rentschler. Alta is survived by her sister Janet (George) Kirkpatrick, nieces Susan and Kathy Kirkpatrick, Mary (Bryan) Steeb Sickbert, and a nephew Michael (Cheryl) Ray Steeb. She has a great niece, Jenna (Paul) Sickbert Bilyk, and great nephew Benjamin (Joleen) Sickbert. She has 3 great-great nephews and 2 great-great nieces. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Arlean Rentschler (Lynford) and niece Diane (Tracy), and great nieces Brittany and Rebecca. Her family will remember many times together on the farm; counting lambs and feeding new ones, taking the food up to the cats in the barn, helping with chores, riding the tractor, playing baseball, watching fireworks from the top barn floor, and eating Alta’s delicious chocolate cake with chocolate peanut butter frosting. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bridgewater with a viewing starting at 9:30 A.M. Pastor Drexel Morton officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bridgewater or Washtenaw County Special Olympics Area 20. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
