August 17, 1941 - January 29, 2017
A genuine man with a huge heart and caring soul, Carroll Craige Nadig passed away on Sunday morning, January 29th, 2017 at 8:42 a.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. At his side was his beloved wife of 53 years, Sandy, and his loving family, Erik and Christi, Jeff and Katie, Mark, Brad, and Connie and John (Sandy’s sister and brother-in-law). Carroll was born August 17th, 1941, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Whitehall High School in Whitehall, Pennsylvania in June 1959, where he and Sandy were classmates. Carroll then enrolled at Pennsylvania Military College (PMC) and attained the rank of First Cadet Battalion Commander, graduating in 1963. He also completed post graduate work at New York University and Eastern Michigan University, earning his MBA. After graduation, Carroll joined Ford Motor Company, starting at Michigan Truck in Wixom in 1965. He retired 46 years later, having had a wonderful and fulfilling career with Ford and Visteon. After retirement, Carroll found a new career with Great Lakes Educational Group, tutoring High School students. Doing this gave Carroll a tremendous amount of satisfaction, joy and enthusiasm in his retirement years. Carroll was a man with a large personality, and most notably, an even larger heart when it came to family and friends. He had a very sincere love for the Saline community and enjoyed volunteering his time to participate with his four sons in the Boy Scouts, Youth Baseball, and the Warriors Wrestling program. He also was an avid weightlifter his whole life, having participated in competitions in his younger years; and he continued to enjoy spending time lifting weights and being in the gym. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Saline, Michigan, where he served on the Personnel and Finance Committees. Carroll had a unique and exquisite zest for life, a humorous wit, loved to dance, loved to vacation – especially cruising, and got the most joy from being with his family and friends. He was a man for whom integrity and dignity were the cornerstones of his life, along with his faith. Those of us who loved and admired him say: “Farewell, loving husband, dearest Dad and genuine friend; you will always be with us”. As the song by Frank Sinatra says, “I did it my way”, and that certainly epitomized Carroll’s approach to life! Surviving him are his wife, Sandra; his four sons and daughter in-laws, Erik and Christi, Mark and Gwendolyn, Brad and Dock Yi, and Jeff and Katie; and twelve beloved grandchildren: Kaleb, Craig, Jennifer, Cassidy, Hannah, Denise, Bryce, Camryn, Graham, Sarah, Reed, and Nolan. Other survivors include his stepbrother, Larry DeJong, and wife, Pam; his brother and sister in-law, John and Connie Viglione; and his niece, Nancy, and husband, Chris. Preceding Carroll in death were his mother, Drinajean, and husband, Raymond Oswald; his father, Thomas, and wife, Dorothy Nadig; and his stepbrother, Ralph DeJong. Also there to greet him in his heavenly home is his beloved granddaughter, Ella Nadig. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the First United Methodist Church of Saline, 1200 North Ann Arbor Street, Saline, Michigan 48176, with pastor Tom Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Saline. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Saline, designated for the Good Samaritan Fund to help those in the community in need, or to the Saline High School, which will be set aside and designated to help student athletes in need of tutoring/educational help at Great Lakes Educational Group. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline where friends may begin calling on Thursday, February 2, 2017 between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.
