Dorothy Elizabeth Doane, age 89, passed peacefully at the Saline Evangelical Home on Friday, June 7, 2019, surrounded by the loving care of the staff and volunteers from Arbor Hospice, and family. Dorothy was born November 19, 1929 in Saline, Michigan to Harry Finch and Gertrude Rhoades Finch. She graduated from Saline High School, class of 1947, and completed an Associates Degree in Business. Dorothy married Jule Doane on January 15, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church of Saline, known then as the Federated Church of Saline. Dorothy devoted her career to the University of Michigan. She started with an entry-level secretarial position in 1948 and retired as Executive Secretary to the Dean, School of Public Health in 1987. She was highly respected and known as a person of great integrity, strong work ethic, and wonderful sense of humor. She loved music and was accomplished at playing both the piano and organ. She also loved to sing, especially duets with her sister Margaret King. Both she and her husband Jule, loved to dance and spent many weekends dancing at the Roostertail in Detroit, and Windsor. She loved the theater, especially musicals, and she loved to entertain. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jule Doane, and her sister Margaret F. King (Thomas J. King, deceased). She is survived by her nephew David E. King (Cherrie), nieces Kathy, Marjorie, Roseanne, and several great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Saline, 143 E. Michigan Ave., Saline, MI 48176.
