    Frances Finkbeiner

    May 5, 1931 - May 7, 2018

Frances Finkbeiner, age 87, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at her home. She was born on May 5, 1931 in Ypsilanti, MI, the daughter of Max C. and Eleanor (Foster) Ross. On August 1, 1948 she married Lloyd C. Finkbeiner and he preceded her in death on February 17, 2017. Fran milked cows and raised chickens. She was known as the "Egg Lady" at the Saline Hospital as she delivered dozens and dozens of eggs; every one painstakingly washed before it went into the egg crate. She was a devoted Mother, vital to her family and community, donating many gallons of blood throughout her healthy life. She and Lloyd grew vegetables in a large garden, canning and freezing enough to feed their family for the year. She was a voracious reader and usually had 4 or 5 books around the house that she was reading at one time. She went to Nursing School in her late 30s, studying at 4:00 in the morning before chores; she graduated in December 1978 as an LPN, and worked at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital for 22 years. Survivors include their children Barbara (Cliff) Wilson, Shirley (Scott) Bitters, Max (Nancy) Finkbeiner, Pat Ling, 11 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren, her sister Sandra (Robert) Johnson, her brother Ed (Monika) Ross, and many nieces and nephews, and her 3 companion cats who added so much joy to her last 18 months. Fran was preceded in death by her daughters Beverly Jane and Joanne Marie, sisters Ann Luedtke, Nancy Niethammer, and Mary Ruhl, and granddaughter Jennifer Wilson. Funeral services will take place Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, and a luncheon will be held at the church. Friends may begin calling at the Church on Friday at 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital or St. Paul United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the Church on the day of the service.
