Pauline Doris (Hertler) Dieterle, 88, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Saline Evangelical Home after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born October 26, 1924 in Saline Township to Carl and Frieda (Wahl) Hertler. On August 6, 1949, in Junction City, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Owen Dieterle. Pauline was a life-long resident of the Saline community, and a member of the Saline American Legion Post 322 and St. James United Church of Christ. During World War II, she worked at King-Seeley Corp., and subsequently at Ford Motor Co. and Meijer. Pauline also volunteered at the Saline Community Hospital, but her primary occupation was homemaker, raising a family and providing childcare to many others. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, knitting and reading, but most of all the company of her family and many, many friends. Pauline is survived by her four daughters: Carol (Gary) Kind, Kathleen Dieterle, Sharon (Rob) Kuhn, and Sandra (Patrick) Williams, all of Saline; seven grandchildren: Laurie Ernst, Jeff Kind; Jaime and Andrew Kuhn; Kyle, Aaron and Scott Williams; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Madelyn Ernst; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Pauline in death were her husband, Kenneth Dieterle on November 16, 1988; her parents; one sister, Wilma (Hertler) Luckhardt; one brother, Willard Hertler; and one nephew, Charles Hertler. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00am at St. James United Church of Christ, Saline, with the Rev. Wallace Tatara officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Saline. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 2-8pm at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline and at the church on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. The family is grateful to the staff of the Saline Evangelical Home for their care and support during Pauline’s illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pauline’s memory to the Saline Evangelical Home or to St. James United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be provided.
