April 11, 1950 - November 5, 2016
Sue Gainsely Bersuder, age 66, of Tecumseh, passed away November 5, 2016. Born at home in Deerfield, MI, on April 11, 1950 to John and Donna Gainsley, Sue spent her childhood years attending parochial and public schools, enjoying many close neighborhood friendships there. Later, she moved to Saline, MI, where she met and married her husband, John Bersuder. Her life was about service, working many years in the restaurant business, cleaning and home care. She was also committed to tending the feral cat colonies in Tecumseh. Susie had a special fondness for children, as they did for her. She had a small frame, and a huge heart. Kids loved to measure up to see if they’d reached her height – and were so excited when they surpassed it. She had an abiding skill for having fun and developed many special friendships with children through the years. Sue was a firm believer in anything worth doing was worth doing well. She had a remarkable ability to organize, and did so in all aspects of her life – including putting you in your place from time to time. Sue enjoyed a simple life – loved nature, music, dancing or curling up with a good book. She took pride and pleasure in her home and garden, loved having a cocktail with friends and hashing out the latest. And she was extremely devoted to her canine companion, Barney – and the many cats she housed, all of whom brought her such joy. Her caring and compassionate ways were among her greatest gifts, and she shared them gladly. Susie was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are her husband, mother and father-in-law, Fran and Earl Bersuder, sisters-in-law Mary (Stan) Ferguson and Gina Bersuder, brothers-in-law Mark and David (Barb) Bersuder, and eight siblings: Jack (Yvonne) Gainsley of Deerfield; Richard (Joyce) Gainsley of Sylvania; Janet (Al) Nighswander of Deerfield; Jean Gainsley of Ann Arbor; Bonnie (Bill) Simon of San Ramon, CA; Tom Gainsley of Blissfield; Bill (Dodie) Gainsley of Brooklyn and Jane (Ken) Nieman of Santa Rosa, CA. Many nieces and nephews and close friends Kathy Belleau, Judy Rothfus and Betty Little. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses in Neuro-ICU at the University of Michigan Hospital for their care and support. Cremation has taken place. Funerals were not Susie’s thing. So take some time to think of her when you’re walking your dog, embracing nature or just relaxing with a glass of wine at the end of a long day. The family invites you to share in a Memorial Celebration of Sue's life at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at The Landing, 5447 Rogers Hwy. Tecumseh, MI 49286. Memorial contributions can be made to continue her work with feral cats c/o Judy Rothfus, 616 Stetson St., Tecumseh, 49286, or to a charity of your choice.
