Dennis Leroy Waterbury

Dennis Leroy Waterbury, age 74, of Saline, Michigan was called home to the peaceful rest his soul longed for, in the arms of his Savior. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace, free from pain or sorrow. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet endurance. Born on October 16, 1951, to Nelson Cecil and Ruth Lucille (nee Lennox) Waterbury, Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South Korea during the Vietnam conflict. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to a long career at the Willow Run General Motors Plant, from which he eventually retired. He was a football fan who enjoyed cheering for the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions. He also took part in local events, living for the excitement of a good carnival, watching demolition derbies, drag racing, wrestling, and monster trucks. He always looked forward to a day of taking the family to an amusement park, go-karting, mini-golf, or spending a day at the beach. He enjoyed camping, and always looked forward to times spent with his family. He was a dedicated moviegoer who loved taking his children to the theater, sometimes offering to see a double feature. He also had a sweet tooth and was always up for heading out together to get ice cream. Music was a constant thread in his life. He spent hours listening to a wide array of genres, dabbled in playing the guitar, and imparted his eclectic music taste to his children—a gift that will stay with them forever. Above all, he was always down for a family BBQ, especially on the 4th of July, where he could enjoy great food, watch the fireworks, and be surrounded by the people closest to him. Dennis is survived by his children, Jacob Waterbury, Amy (Wouter) Verkerk, and Melissa Waterbury; and his grandchildren, Carter, Addy, and Imani Verkerk, Hunter Neumann, and Grayson Waterbury, as well as his brother Wayne (Maryanne) Waterbury. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Ruth Waterbury, and his sister, Sherry Hunroe. The family will have a small, private memorial, after which he will be interred at Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Ann Arbor, MI.
