Paul Bertram Staley

Paul Bertram Staley of Saline, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side at Brookdale Memory Care in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at the age of 82 following a lengthy illness. Paul was born on April 24th, 1944, in Sandusky, Ohio. He spent his early years in Sandusky and graduated from Perkins High School. He later attended Heidelberg University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration. He is survived by his younger brother, John Staley (Susan Staley), his wife, two daughters, two granddaughters, and his nieces and nephews. Paul and his wife, Karen “Sue” (Carpenter) Staley shared 58 years of marriage, living the first few years in Ohio then moved to Saline Michigan in 1973. Together they have two daughters, Beth Ann Staley Shook (Terry Shook) and Kimberly Sue Staley Schommer (Jeff Schommer). He is also the proud grandfather of two granddaughters; Lindsey and Taylor Shook. He was preceded in death by his parents Bertram and Viola Staley, younger brother Robert Staley (Lynn Staley), and many other family members and pets. Paul dedicated 37 years of service to the Ford Motor Company. During his career, he pursued and completed his Master of Business Administration at Central Michigan University through a Ford-sponsored program. Paul was very involved in his community through several charitable programs and societies, including Christ our King Lutheran Church, the Saline area youth baseball and softball program (as both president and coach), the Saline school board, Meals on Wheels, and the Saline area Jaycees and Optimist clubs. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling and was member of many different leagues over the years. Following his retirement, Paul and Sue loved camping and traveling across the United States. Their most memorable adventure was an 11-week trip to Alaska. Throughout his life, Paul cared deeply for his pets, especially his black cocker spaniel, Charlie, who was his dedicated travel companion. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Saturday, August 29th, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Christ Our King Lutheran Church, located at 3255 Saline Waterworks Road, Saline, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joseph Polzin officiating. A luncheon will also be held immediately following the service.
