Ruth C. Ernst

Ruth Clara (Stollsteimer) Ernst, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021. She was born March 10, 1924 in Ann Arbor to Albert and Clara (Haas). She graduated from Saline High School in 1944. Ruth married Clayton Ernst on July 6, 1947 at Ruth’s childhood home, where they continued to reside for 72 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Della (James) Graff, and 2 grandchildren, Gabriel and Andrew Manny. Ruth and Clayton have 4 children, Carol (Ernst) Manny and David (Farrell) of Dexter; Gary and Teri (Boling) of Howell; Alvin and Joan (Ottoman) of Ann Arbor; and Kevin and Amy (Scherdt) of Manchester, 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Much to Ruth’s delight, all her family resides locally. Ruth was a farmer’s wife and an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cooked, cleaned, sewed, gardened, canned, baked, drove tractors, and tended to the farm animals. A tiny little German woman, who did the work of more than one, and never complained. However, she never hesitated to put her work aside and play a board game or a hand of Uno when the grandkids came to visit. After Clayton passed away two years ago, Ruth went to live at Silver Maples Retirement Community, where she enjoyed exercising, playing bingo and other games, attending Sunday church services, and visiting with the other residents. Ruth was a woman of strong faith and attended St. Thomas Church for many years. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, MI with Pastor Coleman Geraci officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. and again on Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
