Meretdurdy Balayev

On November 25, 2022, at 75 years of age, suddenly and unexpectedly, Meretdurdy Balayev, also known as Mered or Misha, passed away of cardiovascular disease. Dad, grandpa, friend, brother, husband, engineer, colleague, and fisherman, he was always joyful and full of life with a smile on his face. He could never drive past pregnant women, or others in need of help, without stopping and giving them a ride for free. His motto in life was the song: “The main thing, my friends, is not to have an aging heart! And to sing the song that you started until the end.” This is how he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Easygoing, positive, he wanted to go painlessly and not to suffer, and he left on his own terms, just as he would have wanted - peacefully and quietly in his sleep. The day before passing away, he did everything he loved the most - went fishing in the morning, then gathered at the dinner table with his children and grandkids to celebrate American Thanksgiving, and ate his favorite sauerkraut and persimmons. He joked around and laughed a lot. He was surrounded by loved ones. Lucky in life and lucky in death. Mered was born on July 16, 1947, in Tashhouz, Turkmenistan, one of the 15 republics of the former Soviet Union, in a wonderful family. His father, Sapardurdy Balayev, was a bright and kind man, who held high government posts all his life. Despite this, he and his wife, Uzum Balayeva (Atasheva) raised five children very humbly. Mered is deeply missed by his three sisters, whom he loved dearly - Emma, Maral, and Yazgul. They live in Turkmenistan and are devastated that they can’t bury their brother. His beloved brother, Aman, passed away at a very young age and there was no day that went by that Mered didn’t remember his brother, with whom he had a close friendship. Mered spent 48 years of his life with his wife, Zohre Balayeva (Sultanova) and was a faithful spouse. In addition, Mered had many relatives and friends in Turkmenistan, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, US, Canada, and Israel, who have sent their condolences to the Balayev family. More than anything in life, Mered loved and was proud of his children and grandchildren (Jeren, Thurman, Maya, Alex; Ayna, Oleg, Leyla; Bahar, Batyr, Allan, Dana, Anna; Dovlet, Enesha, Sapardurdy, Mergen). He devoted the last years of his life to helping his children and raising his grandchildren. Twice a week he baked Turkmen bread (churek) and gave it with great joy to his children, friends, and neighbors. He loved his adopted city of London, Ontario, Canada (he was proud of his nickname “Canada” given to him in Turkmenistan) and his neighborhood, where he knew everything and where everyone knew him because he walked around every day, rain, snow, or shine. Mered loved shopping, especially buying things at the dollar store. His grandchildren joked that the store “Dollarama” should be renamed to “Dedarama” (Deda is grandpa in Russian). He regularly purchased gifts and put them away in his suitcases in order to carry them to Turkmenistan and give them to his loved ones there. He so much looked forward to going to Ashgabat and couldn’t wait for the pandemic to end so that he could fly there at long last after three long years to see his extended family. Friends are writing that they are crying and mourning. They are saying that he was like sunshine, like a big child, a man with a pure soul and a heart full of light, without any desire for vengeance and with no mean streak, not a grain of guile. He was passionate about life and enjoyed every day and every moment. On his face, there was never anger nor even a frown. He greeted every guest with joy and an open heart. His children will always remember how their dad bought peanuts, from every paycheck, and roasted them in the oven, or pomegranates, which they all ate together happily, sitting on the floor of their living room, Turkmen style. He made fries on Saturdays and did technical drawing homework for his daughters in high school. He loved taking the kids to numerous parades in the USSR every year. He was an avid photographer and developed black and white photos with his children in the darkness of the kitchen in their Gaudan apartment. The neighborhood kids always waited for clean-up Saturdays in the courtyard that he organized because they knew that after the event was over, Uncle Misha would bring out a huge pot with boiled corn, which would be enough for everybody. He was a jack of all trades, a jolly man, a prankster, and a storyteller - this is how his loved ones and friends would describe him. And they will also say that there was a lot to learn from him - Mered forgave quickly, did not hold grudges, was happy to celebrate small things in life, and was never idle. Mered, faithful husband, cherished father, beloved grandfather, precious father-in-law, loyal brother, favorite uncle, comforting friend, and kind neighbor has left us. After 75 years and 4 months, Mered leaves a legacy for us of cheerfulness, helpfulness, graciousness, and kindness. Ever willing to cheer, comfort, forgive and lend a helping hand, Mered will forever be remembered as our special “Deda." Since replacing him is impossible, we will forever more remember and honor him with both our tears of sorrow, which flow from the crushing pain of his passing, and of joy, as we recall the ceaseless smile that he not only wore on his own face, but that he gave to us whenever we were near him. Forever in our hearts! 25 ноября 2022 года скоропостижно и неожиданно в 75 лет ушёл из жизни от сердечно-сосудистого заболевания Меретдурды Балаев - Меред, Миша… Папа, дедушка, друг, брат, муж, инженер, коллега, рыбак. Всегда жизнерадостный, жизнелюбивый с улыбкой на лице. Он никогда не проезжал мимо беременных и нуждающихся, которые ловили такси и довозил их бесплатно. Его девизом по жизни была песня «Главное, ребята, сердцем не стареть! Песенку начатую до конца допеть». Так его запомнят все, кто знал и любил его. Лёгкий в общении, позитивный, он хотел уйти из этой жизни легко, не мучаясь и ушёл именно так, как хотел, мирно, спокойно, во сне. За день до смерти, он сделал всё, что любил больше всего - утром пошёл на рыбалку, потом сидел за столом с детьми и внуками, празднуя американский День Благодарения, ел любимую солёную капусту и хурму. Много шутил и смеялся. Был окружён любимыми людьми. Счастливчик по жизни и счастливчик в смерти. Меред родился 16 июля 1947 года в городе Ташаузе, в Туркменистане, одной из 15 республик бывшего Советского Союза, в замечательной семье. Его отец, Сапардурды Балаев, был умным, добрым человеком и занимал большие правительственные посты всю свою жизнь. При этом, он и его жена, Узюм Балаева (Аташева) воспитали своих пятерых детей очень скромно. По Мереду скорбят его три сестры, которых он очень любил - Эмма, Марал и Язгуль. Они живут в Туркменистане и сожалеют, что не могут похоронить брата. Его любимый брат, Аман, оставил этот мир совсем молодым и не было такого дня, чтобы Меред не вспоминал своего брата, с которым у него была большая дружба. Меред 48 лет прожил со своей женой, Зохре Балаевой (Султановой) и был верным супругом. Также у Мереда в Туркменистане, в Турции, в России, в Украине, в Америке, в Канаде и в Израиле много родных и друзей, которые посылают слова соболезнования семье Балаевых. Больше всех в жизни Меред любил и гордился своими детьми и внуками (Джерен, Серман, Майя, Алекс; Айна, Олег, Лейла; Бахар, Батыр, Аллан, Дана, Анна; Довлет, Энеша, Сапардурды, Мерген). Он посвятил свои последние годы помощи детям и воспитанию внуков. Два раза в неделю он выпекал туркменские лепёшки (чурек) и раздавал с радостью детям, друзьям и соседям. Он очень любил свой приёмный город, Лондон, Онтарио, Канаду (гордился кличкой Канада, кторую ему дали в Туркменистане) и свой район, где он всё знал и где все знали его, потому что он каждый день ходил пешком и в хорошую и в ненастную погоду. Меред обожал ходить по магазинам, особенно он любил делать покупки в долларовом магазине. Его внуки шутили, что магазин Долларама должны переименовать в Дедараму. Он регулярно покупал подарки и складывал их в чемоданы для того, чтобы отвезти всё в Туркменистан родным и близким. Он ждал поездки в Ашхабат с большим нетерпением и не мог дождаться конца пандемии, чтобы наконец полететь туда после трёх долгих лет и увидеться с родными. Друзья пишут, что плачут и скорбят. Говорят, что он был как солнышко, как большой ребёнок, человек светлой и чистой души, абсолютно без хитрости, лукавства и подлости. Он радовался и наслаждался каждым днем и каждым моментом жизни. На его лице никогда не было не то что злости, а даже хмурости. Всех многочисленных гостей он встречал с радостью и открытым сердцем. Его дети всегда будут помнить, как папа с каждой зарплаты покупал арахис и в духовке поджаривал его. Или гранаты, которые все дружно ели вместе, сидя на полу гостиной по-туркменски. Жарил розовую картошку (картошку фри) по субботам. Делал домашнюю работу по черчению за дочек. Любил водить детей на парад каждый год. Был заядлый фотограф и вместе с детьми проявлял чёрно-белые фотографии в темноте на кухне квартиры на Гаудане. Соседские дети всегда ждали субботники во дворе, которые он устраивал, так как знали, что по окончанию субботника дядя Миша вынесет большую кастрюлю варенной кукурузы, которую хватит на всех. Мастер на все руки, весельчак, хохмач, фантазёр - так его опишут родные и друзья. А ещё скажут, что было чему у него поучиться - Меред быстро прощал, отпускал обиду, радовался пустякам, никогда не сидел без дела. И, как святой, ушёл он в Пятницу, во сне, И вняли Небеса его мольбе: И не болеть, и не лежать, А просто лечь поспать. Мы не приемлем – как же так? Как-будто жизнь – один пустяк: Вчера ходил, и ел, и пил, Чуреки пёк, капусту, огурцы солил... И внукам покупал всё безделушки и игрушки, А всем – палатки, зажигалки, календари, резинки, и хлопушки. И вот – нет дедушки Мереда, На «Почему?» и «Отчего?» мы не найдём ответа. Вечная память!
